May 18, 2026

Joint venture partners Gentian and Oakgrove are pleased to have secured planning permission for an exciting development of 18 brand new apartments in central Winchester.

The consented plans are for 13 one-bed and 5 two-bed apartments across the top floors of 7-8 High Street which is currently occupied on the ground floor by Sostrene Grene and Rick Stein.

This substantial project, with a GDV of £6.1m, will convert 15,500sqft of current unused space into high quality, period-style apartments. Construction will get underway from today, 18 May, with a 13-month build programme and a show flat available to view from September of this year.

Nick Hanson, Development Director of Gentian said: "We've identified a clear need for residential apartments in Winchester town centre, and the upper floors at our property 7-8 High Street are ideal for this type of conversion. In addition to being the landowner, Gentian is providing the planning, finance, and sales expertise for this project. We're looking forward to working with our JV delivery partners Oakgrove on its successful completion."

Dominic Dickens, Co-Founder of Oakgrove said: "Now that planning has been granted, we're keen to get started on site and deliver this high-quality residential scheme in the heart of Winchester. Our strength is in transforming underused spaces into beautiful, long-lasting homes and we're excited to bring something really special to the city."
